Montbretia House provides short residential breaks for adults aged 18 to 64 — a week by the sea in West Kerry, with the support each guest needs, day and night. Never more than six guests stay at a time.

How a stay comes together

From the first phone call to the week itself, this is the path.

  1. 1

    Get in touch

Refer yourself, or ask a family member or any member of a multi-disciplinary team to refer you. Where it applies, the referral goes to the HSE Respite Support Forum.

  2. 2

    Come and be assessed

The Person in Charge meets you at the house. We talk through your health, medication, the support you get at home and the equipment you use, and we show you around.

  3. 3

    Choose your dates

Once any reports are back, we offer you several weeks and you pick what suits. Guests usually arrive on a Monday and head home the following Sunday.

  4. 4

    Plan your week

On arrival you set your own timetable — when you get up, what you eat, how much help you want, and what you would like to do.
