A week by the sea — and a real break for the family

Montbretia House is a six-bedroom respite house in Ballywiheen, near Ballyferriter. Adults aged 18 to 64 stay for a week at a time, with support available day and night and never more than six guests in the house.

The Ballywiheen experience

Our location is part of the care. The Dingle Peninsula gives guests sea air, quiet lanes and a sensory garden to sit in — and, if they fancy it, a boat trip out of Dingle harbour or a swim in the hydrotherapy pool in Tralee.

What you can expect

  • Six private bedrooms, all en-suite, named after local trees and chosen by you.
  • Home-cooked meals made with fresh, local ingredients, and any diet catered for.
  • Support with medication and personal care, and coordination with your own healthcare team.
  • Social and recreational activities, planned each week with the people staying.
  • An accessible, secure house, with a wheelchair-accessible sensory garden.
  • Two staff every night, one awake for the full twelve hours.

  • Adults aged 18 to 64, women and men.
  • People with a primary disability, or dementia diagnosed before 65.
  • Those living in the Republic of Ireland or Northern Ireland, with a medical assessment of needs.
  • Families who need a planned break from caring, or cover when the main carer is unavailable.
